February 2015 - Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to the February Pals Blog Hop. This month we are sharing what we love - our favorite Stampin' Up! products and our favorite crafting techniques.

I have always had a love of paper and memory keeping.  I would go to my local craft store and spend money only to find that the things I bought were just a shade off the color I really wanted for my layout. Then in the summer of 2012 I was introduced to Stamping' Up! and fell in love.  

My project today highlights what I love the most about Stamping' Up! products - they coordinate and compliment beautifully.

 

The products I used on this card are all from different elements within the Stamping' Up! collection.  The Chevron Textured Emboss Folder has been out for a while.  The yummy Hello Honey DSP is from the new Sweet Dreams DSP in the Occasions catalog.  The arrow (really two arrows lined up behind the heart) was a new punch in the last annual catalog.  The heart was created by lining up the chevron pattern from the Sweet Dreams Designer Washi Tape (on Very Vanilla card stock to mimic the same pattern as the DSP and then punching out the heart using the Sweetheart Punch.  The button tied with linen thread is from the Sweet Dreams Designer Buttons set.  

If I had gone to a big box craft store I would have spent hours trying to find elements that all coordinated.  Stamping' Up! takes care of all the color coordination so I have more time to enjoy creating.

Valentines' Day is around the corner and this week the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge embraces true Valentine's Day colors. 

And here is my card...

The Happy Hearts Textured Impressions Embossing Folder provides the beautiful and subtle background for my card.  A few heart punches from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack increases the love factor.

The "drape" across the top was created with the Adorning Accents Edgelits.  I added this element to cover the "partial" hearts at the top of the embossed background.  

The sentiment is from the Really Good Greetings stamp set where I masked the "already" with scotch tape when inking up my stamp.  Don't forget to take the tape off off before stamping!  

The sentiment is layers using the Banner Framelits.

I Love My Paper Pumpkin

Last night I came home to find the cute orange My Paper Pumpkin box in my mail.  I opened with great anticipation of what would be inside this month.  Stampin' Up! knocked it out of the park again!

This month includes all the pieces you need to create 24 adorable Valentine's Day treats.  The colors are REal Red, Blushing Bride, Whisper White and Gold.  Each of the tags has gold detailing providing the perfect splash of bling.  Here is a peak at the kit before I got started...

 

There are instructions as well as a great video to walk you through the assembly as you see them pictured.  

I began my treat bags by stamping images on the precut gold trimmed hearts.  The stamps are photopolymer (which I love) so placement onto the hearts is a cinch.  To get a crisp image I have found stamping on my Stampin' Piercing Mat works great.  You can see it under the card stock here.

I first stamped the sentiment and then added the little heart.  Super cute, don't you think?

Then I added the precut banner tails to the hearts with glue dots (included in the kit).

Next I filled my goodie bags with seven Dark Chocolate Dove candies.  They are wrapped in red foil so they look great with the kit accessories.

Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge #236

 Today we have a fun Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge.  This week Kerry Willard Bray makes her debut as the designer of this week's sketch challenge.  I think she gave us a fun sketch.  

 

 

I am working to stretch myself and not simply follow the sketch.  I have always been one of those people who colors inside the lines and follows instructions (when I read them).  So I want to stretch my creativity more this year and work to interpret the sketches when I can.  

When I saw this sketch I knew I wanted to do something different with the banners.  I thought the New fun Calypso Coral Pompom Trim would create a fun embellishment.  

Let's see how it turned out...

 

 

 

 

The color combination (Soft Suede, Coastal Cabana and Calypso Coral) was inspired by the Best Year Ever DSP from Sale-A-Bration. One of the patterns is the background for the card.

The sentiment comes from one of the new Single Photopolymer Stamp sets called Snuggles and Smooches.

I have signed my cards to my husband and kids for years "love you ooodles" so when I saw this set I had to have it.  And don't you just love the circle flowers on the envelope flap?

And here is the inside of the card.  The "You" came from the Yippee Skippee stamp set.

It is Valentine's Week.  If you stopped by over the weekend you saw I was busy crafting Valentine's treat holders and making the last of my Valentine's cards.

I never know where my Mojo might come from.  This card started from the fact that I wanted to use this Oval Designer Frame Embossing Folder and the color Strawberry Slush (as I felt I have been neglecting this color). This led to what sentiment fit inside the oval from my various stamp sets with a message of "Love". It is fun to see where creativity takes us isn't it?

Pretty in Pink - Valentine Treat holders

If you are a regular follower, you know that I have two sons.  One in college and one a senior in high school.  While they are happy to get cards and treats from mom they are long gone from the days of handing out Valentine's to everyone in their class. So, what does a crafty mom do? I adopt my friends' kids to craft for! And so began my hunt for the perfect treat holder for valentine treats.  I found the perfect treat box on Pinterest created by Crafty Caroline in the UK.

 

 Here are the details:

• Start with a piece of cardstock 6" x 10"
• Along the long side (10" side) score at 3/4", 2", 4", 6", 8" and 9 1/4"
• Then turn to the short side (6" side) and score at 2" and 4"
• Then you will cut along the lines as shown in the photos below:

 

• Insert the extended flaps into the Scallop Tag Punch and punch them out.

• Fold up the sides and adhere with Tombow Glue.

• Once all the sides are glued together, you are ready to decorate the treat box.
• To finish, fill with your favorite treats and then tie the top with ribbon.

 Again, left over DSP was perfect for this project. I used More Amore DSP from last year's Spring Catty, along with the A Round Array stamp and coordinating punch.  The Tag It stamp set provided the "from:" for the banner tag.  The banner tag was cut using the new Banner Framelits.

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge - #190

It is Thursday and that means it is a Pals Paper Arts Challenge! This week is a color challenge and the colors say Valentine's Day to me, with only a week until the big day I think that was planned.

 

 

I struggled with the color Blushing Bride.  It seemed to have more of a peachy tone to it when I put it up against the Rose Red.  So I limited my Blushing Bride element to the Chevron Ribbon.  I have made several cards lately with lots of layers.  When I began cutting the Rose Red hearts and placing them on the Basic Gray I really felt less was better.  

And the sentiment ... I am in love with this font.  The font itself is happy.

I had to create a special heart on the inside as well.

 

I hope I inspired you to make a few more valentines as the big day approaches.

A Freshly Made Sketch Valentine

Today I wanted to share a card I created for this week's Freshly Made Sketch Challenge #120. The sketch was designed by Rita Wright.

A really liked the clean and simple design...so I began to just start putting my card together.  It evolved as I selected my DSP and worked with the Banner Framelits and this was the result.

While I liked it I did not like the spacing of the card.  So I began again using the same elements and crafted an entirely different card.

 

It's interesting to see how using the same elements creates an entirely different card.  So I chose the second card to enter into the FMS challenge this week.

Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge #188

It is Thursday and that means time for a new PPA Challenge!  This week our Design Team has a sketch challenge for you designed by the talented Margaret Moody. Let's see what she created for us...

This clean, simple, and fun sketch inspired me to use some new products to create this Valentine.

The new Fancy Foil Designer Vellum offers a clean yet sparkling background on the Real Red card base.  The Language of Love Heart was stamped in Real Red Ink, cut out using the second heart of the Heart Collection Framelit Dies and then layered on a Real Red Heart punched with the Full Heart Punch.  The sentiment came from the Best of love set which is still available.  The sentiments in the Best of Love Stamp Set have fabulous fonts like the one I used.  LOVE it (pun intended). The finishing touch - Silver 1/8" Ribbon.  I think the ribbon at the top balances the sentiment on the bottom in the opposite corner perfectly!

And I didn't stop there...here is the inside of the card.  One more stamp from the Language of Love Stamp Set.  This is a great stamp set.

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge #187

It is Thursday and time for Pals Paper Arts Challenge.  This week is a color challenge and oh what fun colors they have given us to create with...Real Red, Soft Sky and Whisper White.  

I immediately knew what I wanted to do with this challenge. Use a new embossing folder and create a banner. 

Super easy yet I think it looks like a lot of work went into the card.  Here are the details:

• Whisper White note card and envelope set (131527) is the base.
• Cut the Soft Sky cardstock (131203) 1/8" smaller and then emboss with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder*
• Then cut all the banner shapes using the Hearts a Flutter Framelits (130159). Stamping the third element with Real Red ink from the Hearts a Flutter Stamp set (129252) before cutting it. The final element of the banner was cut and then stamped using the Tape It stamp set (130715).
• Add Basic Metal Buttons (133319) and tie with Whisper White Bakers Twine (124262).
• The sentiment came from the Love you to the Moon stamp set (133143) and punched with the 3/4" circle punch (119873).

*this is a sneak peak at one of the Sale-a-bration items available beginning January 28, 2014.

I enjoyed creating this card.  If you are not participating in the Pals Challenges you should give it a try.  It is great fun and I have found my own creativity flourishing by pushing myself to participate in these challanges.  It is a new year and the opportunity to explore new things.
