Project Life by Stamping' Up - capturing the moments of our lives

On Sunday I talked about getting back into my desire to get back into memory keeping.  While I have traditionally done scrapbooking the last couple of years I have been intrigued by Project Life.  I was thrilled when Stamping' Up! added the Project Life lineup.  The PL cards coordinate with the SU color palette continuing their commitment to coordinating all the elements of their product line.  LOVE!

As I mentioned I am going back to the summer of 2012 to pick up where I left off.  The next event to capture was a trip John and I took to Quebec City.  It was a wonderful trip and the pictures captured all the fun and adventure.  It was great to relive this week.  Here are a few PL pages to capture some of the events.

This page is the first page and captures a few of the unique and beautiful images we experienced while in this very European city. 

We also did many adventurous excursions...a Tree-to-Tree obstacle course, ziplining and Via Ferrata. 

 

These are photos of me ziplining. Can you see the ledge I am standing on?  It is a leap of faith to just jump off and a great opportunity to scream with delight.  I need to add some journaling but I think the pictures truly tell the story.

When I first starting using Project Life pages I struggled believing I needed to resize the photos to fit in the pockets.  As you can see here I used four pockets for one photo.  I no longer feel bound by the pockets.  I used the Adventure Awaits and Amazing Birthday stamp sets here.  Perfect!

Spring in Southwest Florida

This is a tree in our front yard.  Each March these beautiful trees bloom across Southwest Florida.  The trees and flowers mark the changes in our seasons.  I hope Spring is around the corner for all our northern friends and family.

Recently, I have been missing my mojo for creating.  With a little reflection I realized I had strayed from what I love doing - capturing the moments of our lives through memory keeping.  Last weekend I pulled out my scrapbooks and project life pages and began creating.  I keep my books in chronological order so I needed to pick up back in the summer of 2012.  Yikes! I am behind.

I have a hard time limiting the photos on my pages especially when there are so many that capture the memories of the event.   As a result many pages don't have a lot of design work on them.  What I do like to do is journal.  When I go back to pages I did years ago my favorites are those where I told the story of the event.  The little details we forget are quickly remembered when reading the journaling.

So you will see me sharing some of my memory keeping along with cards and gift ideas.  I hope to continue to inspire you and your creative journey.

Project Life by Stampin' Up!

As I write this blog post I just said goodbye to Conor who is heading back to Gainesville.  Yesterday I took Pierce to the airport at the crack of dawn to head back to Chicago.  You might think this gets easier rather it seemed even harder.  Yep, I broke into ugly cries.  We had three great weeks together - we celebrated two birthday's (Christmas Even and New Year's Day) as well as Christmas and New Year's.  

I really wanted to be fully present while they were home.  As a result, I did not capture as many photos as I would have liked.  I did capture important pieces and have been working on my Project Life - Hello December album.  

I love this smaller album (6 x 8) and the Variety Pack Photo Pocket Pages provided a nice assortment of layouts. If you have not tried Project Life it is the perfect time to start.  The concept is to document not just those special occasions rather all the everyday moments that create our lives.  I love that concept.

While I am still working on journaling and adding embellishments to the pages I wanted to give you a bit of inspiration to get YOUR Project Life album going.

 

 

I began my album with Thanksgiving - isn't that when the holiday season begins?  I will add photos from our holiday parties as well.

 

 

 

Below I captured Conor's 21st birthday.  It was a fun evening.

 

 

 

 

 

Now for a few Christmas morning pages...

The process of capturing these memories reminds me of my many blessings.  While we each go back to our individual lives I have these memories to look back on again and again.

January is the perfect time to begin using Project Life by StampinUp (PLxSU) to capture the everyday.  I am pledging to make more of an effort to capture the everyday in 2015.  Won't you join me?

2015 - The Adventure begins

Excitement in the Air!

Today's post is simply personal. Yesterday John and I attened our very last Awards Ceremony at our sons' school, a total of 15 years has been spent at this school.  It will feel odd to drive past in the Fall and realize we no longer have anyone attending.

 

It was a lovely ceremony recognizing the achievements of these talented young men and women.  We were immensely proud of Pierce as he was recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and received an award for an essay he wrote analyzing John Steinbeck's East of Eden.  The faculty commented in the presentation that this was not an assignment rather written out of his desire to explore the themes of the novel at a deeper level.  Not bad for a Science and Math kid!

Today we prepare for Graduation with much excitement in the air.  We are beaming with pride.  

 

 

When your children are young people tell you the time goes by fast and enjoy each moment.  At that time in your life, you are juggling so much you cannot imagine it going by fast, yet it does.  I am so pleased to have captured the many moments of our lives through scrapbooking.  As we flip the pages of the scrapbooks we see the rich tapestry we have woven as a family - priceless!

Today will mark the end of one chapter of our life and the next chapter begins. I look forward to watching the story continue to unfold.  It has been amazing so far!

More Project Life by Stampin' Up!

Over the weekend I was able to get two scrapbook pages completed.  My scrapbooks are a combination of Project Life pages and traditional 12 x 12 pages that include photos, embellishments and journaling.  I wanted to show you another Project Life page where I used Stampin' Up DSP and My Digital Studio (MDS).

The pages are not elaborate.  The key to Project Life is to get the the moments captured and to tell your story.  I will show you one of the pages that captures Father's Day 2012 (I know I am behind).

The Project Life Pocket Page I used is Design F which includes one 4" x 6" pocket and ten 3" x 4" pockets. This page design used to throw me off because I did not know how to get more 4" x 6" photos in the layout.  Simple - you chose photos where you can slice it down the middle.  Your eye naturally looks at it as a whole photo.  You can see I did that twice.

Let's take closer look...

I am an MDS novice yet the program is fairly easy to work with and there are many great Stampin' Up! tutorials and You Tube vidoes available to get you started.  The Happy Father's Day card in the center was completely designed and printed from MDS.  I set the size of my project (3 x 4), purchased a Father's Day stamp set, and then added the stamps to my project, selected the colors I wanted and then added text.  It is fairly simple and fun to play around in.

You can see I even added text to my photos and print those as well.  The text added to the photo below is a brush added to Photoshop by Ali Edwards.  I love her style.  The "Recording Moments" in the photo at the top of the page is another Ali Edwards brush.

I do hope I am inspiring you to document the moments of YOUR life.  Our lives are not about the things we accumulate rather the accumulation of our experiences.  As the years go by I am more and more appreciative of the time I have invested in documenting our lives.

Using Stampin' Up! Project Life

Those of you that follow my blog know that my crafting roots are in scrapbooking.  So I was thrilled when I saw Stampin' Up! teaming up with Becky Higgins and Project Life.  I have used Project Life and enjoyed using it to quickly catch up on capturing my memories.  However I am partial to the paper and all the accessories I use with Stampin' Up.  So my Project Life box of goodies has been collecting dust and will continue to collect dust now that I have SU Project Life accessories!!!

Here are some close up shots...

The card in the top left is from the Stampin' Up PL Card Collection.  The colors in the cards coordinate with all the other SU products.  I used Cajun Craze card stock as background for a couple of photos I cropped.  The SU Project Life framelits made sizing everything a breeze.

While there are many more memories to capture from this event I was thrilled to get page one done so quickly and I just love how it turned out.

Pals February Blog Hop

Back to my Scrapbooking roots!

While I love making cards this crazy love for paper, ribbon, ink and stamps started with scrapbooking. 

I usually go in chronological order when scrapbooking but I got behind in 2012 and then began jumping in out out of time frames.  I am trying to go back and fill-in the gaps.  I finally did a few pages this past weekend and wanted to share one.

This is from the Senior Dinner for our oldest son, Conor, at our local Hyatt.  It was a fabulous evening and of course I shed a few tears as we watched a 30 minute video of the graduates through the years.  Our sons have gone to a private school and they both have attended there since Kindergarten!  Needless to say to see those small adorable faces at the beginning and the young men and women they are now was a bittersweet journey.  We are about to do this again with our other son in May.  Get those tissues ready!

You can see I used the Top Note die to capture my journaling of the event.  I also used stamps from the Happy Day stamp set.  My Silhouette Cameo e-cutter provided the "Senior Dinner" from Pool Party card stock.  I am a complete novice using the e-cutter this is only my second attempt at it so I am pleased with my achievement here.

Stampin' Up! products are the best I have ever used.  The way they color coordinate everything (ink, paper, ribbon, accessories) makes crafting a truly creative process and not the hunt for the perfect color accessories that go with the paper you selected.  

I hope I inspired you to capture your memories.  I will be sharing more scrapbooking pages and ideas along with my cards as I work to catch up on my scrapbooking.
