Add a Little Sparkle

My card was inspired by this week's PPA Color Challenge, here are the colors.

When I saw the colors  I immediately felt I was going to need a DSP to help me bring it all together.  I grab the All Abloom DSP Paper Stack and flipped through it for a possible DSP.  And there it was a small patterned Strawberry Slush DSP - perfect.  

Then I thought about using a shape that would compliment the pattern in the DSP and grabbed the Artisan Love Punch.  I punched a few labels in Pear Pizzazz and I liked the how the scallops on the label complimented the DSP pattern.  

I used three different stamp sets to "decorate" the labels.  I stamped each stamp with Pear Pizzazz ink and then heat embossed clear emboss powder.

While these two colors go nicely together they are a bit preppy.  Adding the black behind the DSP and the labels anchored each element and I feel pulled the card together.

The black and silver ribbon was the finishing touch.

A Colorful Pals Paper Arts Challenge

After a small break the Pals Paper Arts Team is back to kick off the month of August with a Color Challenge.  I chose a very clean and simple approach to this color challenge.

Island Indigo and Wild Wasabi are two of my favorite Stampin' Up colors.  As I have said before I am not a pastel kind of gal yet Crisp Cantaloupe with these two colors is perfect.

The square base is 3 x 3 and the polka dot DSP from the Regal DSP pack is 1/4" smaller.  Of course the Mixed Bunch Stamp Set paired with the Blossom Punch is a staple in the Stampin' Up lineup and always delivers a classic look. The Wild Wasabi leaves were punched out with the Blossom Petals Builder Punch (retired).  You could probably use the wing from the Bird Builder Punch as well.

I love the font on this sentiment from the Sumthin' Smithin' Stamp Set.  The "celebrate" is fun yet elegant.

Pals Paper Arts - 211

This week's Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge says SUMMER.  There is nothing like crisp White, Navy and Yellow.  Here is the PPA badge:

I had not yet used my Star Framelits or the Be the Star stamp set and this color combination was perfect for it.  

The Night of Navy stars are embossed in White Emboss powder.  I always use the Embossing Buddy when I heat emboss.  You swipe the Embossing Buddy across your paper before you stamp with the Versamark.  The Embossing Buddy leaves a fine layer of powder to ensure the emboss powder or glitter only sticks to the Versamark image.  It gives you a clean embossed image everytime.

The Daffodil Delight Star was stamped with Daffodil Delight ink for a tone on tone look.  And the new 1/4" Cotton Ribbon in Daffodil Delight was perfect under the sentiment that was punched out with the 1" square punch.

Cool Water Colors

This week's Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge includes colors that remind me of cool tropical waters...let's check out the colors.

I struggled with this color challenge.  I love the colors together yet I could not get my StampinMojo going.  When that happens I go to my favorite inspiration ... nature, catalogs, and Pinterest.  This week my inspiration came from Michele Rey another Stampin Up demonstrator using the Postage Due stamp set on Pinterest.

The stamps are embossed with Pool Party Emboss Powder and punched out with the Postage Stamp punch.  Each postage stamp is layered onto a square that was cut using the second smallest square  of the Square Collection Framelits.  

The DSP is from the Moonlight Paper Stack and the sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Banners and coordinating framelits.  I thought the Basic Metal Button with Basic Gray Bakers Twine was the perfect finishing touch to this card.

Pals Pape Arts Color Challenge #207

Check out the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge this week:

While this color challenge lends itself to a patriotic design I chose another path because I couldn't wait to ink up the new Bloom for You stamp.

The base of the card is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and then the Night of Navy square is 3 1/4" x 3 1/4".  The DSP is from the recently retired Fresh Prints DSP Paper Stack and measures 3" x 3" (substitute with the Brights DSP Paper stack in Real Red). Then I inked up the Bloom for You stamp in Real Red ink and punched it out with the coordinating new Fun Flower Punch. Then I stamped the same flower in Night of Navy and used the 7/8" Scallop Circle to punch out the center only.

StampinMojo Tip - this stamp comes as a wood stamp only.  Before putting the stamp on the wood base, take a piece of scrap paper and punch out a Fun Flower to create a "guide" for the proper placement of the stamp on your wood block.  You need to coordinate the punch and the stamp so when you stamp it is easy to align the punch without needing to cut around the flower to line up the stamp (similar to the Flower Shop stamp set).  I added a small up arrow on my block so I know which way to stamp the flower to align the punch.  

The sentiment comes from So Very Happy.

An Embellished Events Bouquet

Today we celebrate a new Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge!  Check out the great color combination just perfect for summer:

These colors along with a little browsing of Pinterest provided the StampinMojo for this card.

The standard A2 card base is in So Saffron. Then I cut a piece of Baked Brown Sugar card stock 1/8" smaller and stamped it with the Hardwood Background stamp in Baked Brown Sugar. I stamped the frame from the Everything Eleanor stamp set in Baked Brown Sugar onto So Saffron and snipped it out. Then I traced the outline of the bouquet stamp from the Embellished Events stamp set (to enable a clean fussy cut of the bouquet) and then using my Stamp-a-ma-jig stamped the bouquet in the center for the stamp outline.  

A little linen thread around the bouquet added a nice finishing touch.  I wanted to add a sentiment and selected "Happy Birthday" from the new Something to Say stamp set in the NEW annual catalog.  A piece of Pacific Point (retired) ribbon adds a bit of color.

My fussy cutting skill set is still under development.  I figure the more I practice the better it will get!  Tracing the stamp to create an outline to follow did help a lot.

I anxiously await Mr. Brown's arrival with my new Stampin' Up! order filled with goodies from the Annual Catalog.  I have never been good at waiting...

PPA Color Challenge #203

Well this Pals Paper Arts color challenge was a challenge for me!

I like Cajun Craze however I am not crazy about it with Night of Navy.  Cajun Craze screams Fall to me so I want to match it up with other fall colors like yellows, greens, browns. 

The colors really said - masculine card to me so that is what I did...

The Hardward Background stamp in Cajun Craze gives it a "redwood" look.  Then using my square framelits I cut out a squares in Night of Navy and Very Vanilla card stock.

The Wetlands stamp set provided the focal point.  The linen thread wrapped up it up nicely.

I wanted to add a sentiment however the card was still lacking something.  The Burlap Ribbon was the perfect background and then I added the sentiment from Sweet Essentials punched out with the Modern Label Punch.

PPA Color Challenge #202

My design for today's Pals Paper Arts Challenge is Clean and Simple.  Here is the color combination for this weeks Challenge:

And here is my card for this week...

Using a standard A2 card size I cut the square using the third square framelit.  Using my Distressing Tool I "frayed" the edges of the square and then dipped it into my Crumb Cake ink pad.  Then using the Petite Petals Stamp Set and matching punch created the flowers.  The Bermuda Bay leaves came from using the Little Leaves Sizzlits die (retiring).  And Bermuda Bay candy dots were the finishing touch.  The sentiment came from the Lots of Thanks stamp set.

The inside of the card included three layers to bring the colors to the inside of the card.  Let's take a peek.

I struggled getting good picutres this week to capture the colors in the card.  You can see with each photo the color is slightly different and I was using the same lighting!

I hope you are having a great week.  I am so excited because my oldest will be coming home from College for the summer tomorrow night.  Last summer he stayed at school for summer classes so this will be the first time in two years he will be home for more that a couple of weeks.  We will have all of us under one roof again - so fun I can't wait.

Just Because It's Thursday

Just Because it is Thursday and a Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge I created this card!

Clean and simple using the color challenge colors:

The card base is So Saffron followed by a mat of Calypso Coral.  I framed my focal point in black to make it pop.  The butterflies are from the Best of Butterflies stamp set and stamped in Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzazz.  The ribbon is also Pear Pizzazz and the embellishment is from the 2013 Spring Catty.

The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts .

Here is another photo with the envelope which had to have one of these adorable butterflies.

I actually used this color collection a couple of weeks ago in a card because I love orange and green!  It is such a springy color palette.  I have noticed I am using a lot of orange lately.  I will work to change things up a bit - promise.

A Floral Birthday Bouquet

It is Thursday and the beginning of a new month so that means it is a Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge week!  I love the colors for this week.  I had so many ideas for this color combination.

I chose an old favorite stamp set that has been neglected for some time called Mixed Bunch.  It works with the Blossom punch for a quick easy 3D result.  The leaves are from the Blossom Petals XL Punch (although it is retired, it is available on the Clearance Rack!).  The centers of the flowers were punched with the 1" circle punch and a single pearl from the Pearl Basic Jewels adds the finishing touch.  The sentiment came from the Gifts of Kindness stamp set.  I love all the sentiments and the font with this set.

The card is an odd size 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" which makes this even more fun.  No problem mailing it out because I have the Envelope Punch Board and can create an envelope in minutes!!!!

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge #194

As you read this post I am in Phoenix AZ on business.  Once my business meetings are over I will spend the weekend with my Dad who moved to Mesa AZ last year from Naples FL. (Who does that?) Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing my dad's new house and getting to spend some time with him.

Today we celebrate another Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge!

The colors for this challenge are...

There is definitely a geometric theme happening! The ribbon is a piece of Chevron ribbon cut in half and using the Craft Scissors made a beautifully clean cut. A couple of mini glue dots is all that is needed to keep it in place.

I was looking for a star punch and I can't believe I do not have one. So I used the new Petite Petals punch and cut off the rounded edges of the flower. Later I realized there is a star in the Circle Thinlits set. Oh well, I am pleased with my "adapted" star. It is always fun to take a tool and modify it to create something new.

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge #191

We have bright colors for this week's PPA Color Challenge!

I needed to make a birthday card for a colleague that is a huge University of Florida Gators fan so I used the Color Challenge as my Mojo for her card - the Gator colors are Blue and Orange.

I was inspired by Megumi Holland's punch Gator on Pinterest. Too Cute!! I was thrilled when I realized I had two final googlie eyes left to give to my Gator.  I think this turned out so cute.

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge - #190

It is Thursday and that means it is a Pals Paper Arts Challenge! This week is a color challenge and the colors say Valentine's Day to me, with only a week until the big day I think that was planned.

I struggled with the color Blushing Bride.  It seemed to have more of a peachy tone to it when I put it up against the Rose Red.  So I limited my Blushing Bride element to the Chevron Ribbon.  I have made several cards lately with lots of layers.  When I began cutting the Rose Red hearts and placing them on the Basic Gray I really felt less was better.  

And the sentiment ... I am in love with this font.  The font itself is happy.

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge #186

I am so excited to show you my card today.  I love the colors in this week's Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge...

Since this is my first entry as a Design Team member I really wanted to create something special. When I saw the color combination I immediately knew I would use Gold Emboss Powder on the Inland Indigo (one of my favorite Stampin' Up colors) card stock.  I absolutely love how this turned out!

While there are nine different layers of cardstock on this card and I believe it still has a clean design.  Here are the details:

  • Standard A2 card base in Island Indigo.  Then a Whisper White card stock layer just a 1/4" smaller all around.
  • The next Island Indigo layer is 3 1/2" by 4 3/4".  The next layer of Whisper White is again 1/4" smaller around.
  • The next Island Indigo layer is 3 1/2" by 2 3/4". Then using Versamark Ink and Gold Emboss powder and my heat gun, I stamped the background with a stamp from Creative Elements stamp set.
  • The next layer Island Indigo is 1 1/2" by 4" and the Gold layer is 1/4" smaller all around.
  • And finally I stamped the Fleur-de-lis from the Best of Shelli stamp set using Gold Emboss powder again, cut it out with my Circle Framelits (the circle framelits are on sale this week) and layered it on a 2 1/2" circle punched in Island Indigo.
  • And finally I stamped the stems of the flowers from Reason to Smile with Versamark and Gold Emboss powder and then stamped the heads of the flowers in Island Indigo.  A quick punch from my 2 1/2" circle punch and then a bow using Whisper White Organza ribbon.

I loved this so much I made an alternative card as well and here is that result:

01-02-2014cThe change was in the final layer  I stamped the Fleur-de-lis from the Best of Shelli stamp set using Gold Emboss powder again, cut it out with my Circle Framelits (the circle framelits are on sale this week) and layered it on a 2 1/2" circle punched in Island Indigo.
