Thankful for you

This past weekend I attended the memorial service for an Aunt that was very special to me. She was someone who truly knew how to love unconditionally. It was a lovely service. I saw family I have not seen in 30+ years. It was bittersweet. While in Chicago for the memorial service, I had the opportunity to see our son as well as my bestie, Kathy, from high school.

When I see Kathy it is as if no time has passed. Being together fills my soul in a way nothing else does.

I made this card for her which was inspired by this week's PPA Sketch. During last week's free shipping promotion I ordered this stamp set. I love these flowers.

I enjoyed stamping the envelope as well. This is a two step stamp set and oh so easy as a photopolymer set. The greeting is from the Good Greetings stamp set.

Easter Box-Baskets

Regardless of how old we are we still love to get surprises in the mail. Our sons are off at school and will not be with us for Easter. So last weekend I purchased goodies to ship off to them. As a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and someone who loves to create beautifully wrapped packages. I jazzed up a few of the items in the their Box-Baskets.

Let's take a closer look at some of the items I put in their boxes.

Protein bars dressed up with a belly band of the Sale-a-Bration DSP and adorned with the Petal Potpourri and Flower Medallion Punch (15% when purchased as a bundle!).

Always great to have HandyWipes decorated with another band of DSP, retired Baked Brown Sugar ribbon, and a tag using From the Garden stamp set and coordinating Handpicked Framelits Dies (also 15% discount when purchased together!).

Did you see the "love you're than Chocolate" tag attached to their chocolate bunny? This sentiment is part of the Lovely Amazing You Photopolymer Stamp Set. One of my favorite stamp set this Spring.

Springy Curvy Keepsakes

A quick post today. We have a lot of folks coming and going at our home so I am squeezing in time to create and blog.

These are the treat boxes I created for the April Birthdays. I fill each one with Hershey's nuggets.

I used the Irresistibly Yours DSP from Sale-A-Bration. Only TWO days left to get this great paper that can become so many different papers. I used my brayer and colored one sheet with Mambo Melon and one in Wild Wasabi. This paper is a heavier weight and perfect for creating the curvy keepsake.

Then I cut out two butterflies - one in the coordinating plain card stock and one in vellum. I sliced each butterfly in half and glued it onto each side of the curvy keepsake handle. This idea came from Erica Cerwin at Pink Buckaroo Designs. She is so amazingly talented.

Spring has Sprung at the Pals March Blog Hop!

When I think of Spring I think of flowers. So I wanted to create a beautiful trellis with a flowering vine climbing it.

To ensure it was clear I was creating a trellis, I made my card taller. The base of the card is 6" x 3 1/2". Then I added a layer of Very Vanilla 1/4" smaller around. I created the trellis with the Striped Scallop Thinly. I simply cut off part of the trellis and stacked it on top of each other. Then I punched out a lot of sprigs of greenery (Old Olive and Wild Wasabi card stock) using the bird punch. The smaller flowers are stamped in Calypso Coral on Calypso Coral card stock using the Petite Petals stamp set and punched out with the coordinating Petite Petals punch. The larger flower is from the Petals Potpourri stamps set and coordinating Flower Medallion Punch. I stamped the larger flower in Versamark and embossed it with Clear Embossing powder. I finished the flowers with Pearls and scattered a few along the trellis.

PPA 242 Alternate

As a design team member for Pals Paper Arts I strive to create special cards to inspire the blog followers. There are times I create a card and then decide I must go back to the drawing board. Many times the first card inspires the ultimate result.

With St Patricks Day around the corner I wanted to get this post in to show you my first PPA card design.

Click here for the card I submitted for the PPA challenge. It is the same color palette yet this version feels much more masculine. This design made me step back and say what if the shamrock was simply the focal point and the colors were brought in by the framing and finishing touches. This is why we enjoy creating so much. With a few tweaks the same elements transform into something entirely different.

It is not too late to still play with the pals color challenge this week.

Butterfly Basics for PPA #239

A clean and simple design that packs some punch. The Real Red Butterfly takes center stage against the warm early tones of Crumb Cake and Soft Suede.

The card base is 4 1/2" square. The sentiment panel base which is popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals is 2 x 3 3/4" and the next layer is 1/8" smaller all around. The honeycomb design (from the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set) was created by stamping the image in Crumb Cake ink onto the Crumb Cake card stock. The Butterfly was glued onto the sentiment panel so it floats on the card.

My card was inspired by the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge this week.

And the three accents at the top of the card are Pearl Basic Jewels that were colored with the medium Cherry Cobbler Blendability.

The Butterfly Basics Bundle is a must have. The images in the stamp set are fabulous and very versatile and the Butterflies Thinlits Dies are over the top. Stampers Note: I use wax paper between the die and my card stock when I run it through my Big Shot. The butterfly comes out very cleanly.

Color Your Tulips

I am loving Stampin' Up!'s Blendabilities. They are so fun easy and fun to use. I created this card just to use my new "blendies" from the Occasions catalog.

I started with Stampin' Up's Note Cards and Envelopes set. Then I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock at 3 x 41/2. On this piece of WW I stamped the tulips from the Blessed Easter stamp set (retired) but available through MDS.

The leaves are colored with the new Wild Wasabi Blendability. I started with the middle marker and outlined the outer edges and inner lines. Then I filled in with the lightest shade of Wild Wasabi. Then I colored the tulip heads with the Pink Pirouette. Again I outlined the tulips with the middle shade marker and filled in with the lightest color.

The sentiment is from the Painted Petals stamp set. It was cut out and then framed using the Chalk Talk Framelits.

And my envelopes should never be naked, so I added the sweet little tulips from the Painted Petals stamp set to the front of my envelope.

Another Occasions Catalog Sneak Peek

The Occasions Catalog goes live on Tuesday January 6th. There are so many fun refreshing items in the new catalog. I wanted to showcase another set I sued to create a quick and easy card for someone special.

All the stamps used on this card are from the Sheltering Tree Photopolymer Stamp Set. I love this set, it has so many possibilities. It is very unusual for me to create a single layer card yet this stamp set makes it easy to create a card with texture.

There are times when the creative process does not work. I initially tried the "Baby Wipe Technique" to create the leaves. However it did not yield the color I wanted so I simply added the leaves in Wild Wasabi. I like the peeking of the colors through the green leaves. They could be spring blossoms, or perhaps the hint of changing leaves in the Fall.

I would love to hear about a creative process that did not go as you had planned and how you turned it into a successful result.

Pals Paper Arts Challenge #233

This is the last Pals Paper Arts Challenge of the year. I took some creative latitude on this sketch.

Here is the sketch:

As you can see I rotated the sketch.

The base of the card is Garden Green. I used a pattern from the Trim the Tree DSP Paper Stack, now on the Clearance Rack, for the special band and bordered it in Garden Green.

Then I used Blessed Easter, a retired stamp from last year's Occasions catalog. The 2015 Occasions Catalog (goes on sale January 6th) has another beautiful tulip stamp called Love is Kindness. The image was stamped with Memento Black Ink and then colored using Old Olive and Daffodil Delight Blendabilities. Note that you can get these Blendabilitites markers FREE during Sale-A-Bration when you spend $50 you get a FREE item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog.

The sentiment is from the 2015 Occasions Catalog called Crazy About You. This set has 33 Photopolymer stamps to give you a lot of sentiments for your Spring card making. I quick snip to create the flagged end and the card is complete.

I know there is a lot of white space on this card. For me this says simple elegance. I hope you like it as well.

Bright & Cheery for FMS #130

At the last minute I decided to create a card for this week's FMS Sketch Challenge.

A clean and simple sketch. I also was inspired by the following color palette that I found on Pinterest.

I thought the bright pink flowers against the Turquoise Blue was stunning.

So I grabbed Tempting Turquoise, 3 1/4" x 4 1/4", and Baja Breeze (retired SU color) 3 1/8" x 4" and layered them. The Whisper White piece is 2 5/8" x 3 1/2" and stamped the Dahlia from Regarding Dahlias stamp set in Melon Mambo. Using my Blender Pen I added dimension with Pink Pirouette ink.

The ribbon is Blushing Bride Chevron ribbon.

I did not achieve what I was truly envisioning as the blues are not quite right.

You can see that I lined the envelope in Tempting Turquoise and then decorated the outside of the envelope with another Dahlia. I adore this flower, it is just so happy!

This is a quick and easy card I hope you are inspired to get your paper and ink out and make something beautiful today.

Just for You

A bright cherry card Just for you.

Last week was a tough week and one evening I came home and lost myself in my craft room. All the worries of the day just went away as I stamped, embossed and snipped away. This is the result of that evening.

Some of the items I used are retired (these stamps were feeling neglected) yet this card can easily be created using current collections and less snipping!

The standard A2 card base is Calypso Coral followed by a mat of So Saffron just 1/4" smaller [ 4" x 5 1/4"]. The next layer is from the Watercolor Wonder DSP and it is 1/4" smaller again [ 3 3/4" x 5"]. Then I cut the largest Sunburst framelit in Calypso Coral, followed by a circle framelit in Whisper White.

The flowers were stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with White Emboss Powder. I snipped each flower and leaves, it is much easier to snip along an embossed line for a clean snip. The leaves were stamped on Pear Pizazz. The flowers and leaves are from the retired Flower Fest stamp set. I would use the Flower Shop stamp set and the the Pansy Punch from the current catalog instead - no snipping required then!

The 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon in Pear Pizazz added the finishing touch.

Sweet Sorbet and Delicate Doilies

If you are like me not all designs turn out as dazzling as you might have envisioned. When I was creating my card for the PPA Sketch Challenge last week I actually created a different card than I submitted for the challenge and posted last Thursday.

Let's take a look

I had not used the Sale-a-bration DSP, Sweet Sorbet, very much and with Sale-a-bration coming to a close I wanted to show it off again. I really liked the results of the actual sketch challenge portion of the card but I felt it needed embellishment. So I thought I would use the Petal Parade stamp set and create some flowers. One thing let to another and this was the result.

My problem is the card seems too busy. Some designers can keep adding embellishments and the result is fun and whimsical. I think I need to keep working on this style, yet I must admit the card is growing on me the more I look at it.

You can Never have too much Happy!

I absolutely love, love, love how this card turned out. The colors scream spring and I have this thing for textures and layers on a card - this has it ALL.

The design was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest by Chat Wszelaki and this Tulip color palette...

I used Sahara Sand card stock as the base followed by Crisp Cantaloupe andCalypso Coral. The Calypso Coral layer was embossed with the Arrows Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the Occasions catalog. The ribbon is Pear Pizazz 3/4" Chevron Ribbon.

The flowers are from the Petite Petals stamp set (Occasions Catty) and the Petal Parade which is only available through the end of the month as a Sale-a-bration FREE gift with a $50 purchase. Both were stamped in Calypso Coral ink.

The sentiment comes from the Yippee Skippee! stamp set. If you don't have this stamp set you should - great sentiments and awesome contemporary fonts. This was stamped in Sahara Sand ink.

Here is another look

I think this gives you a better sense of the colors. Sometimes it is so hard to accurately capture the colors on a card due to shadows that get created from the lighting.

Those that follow my blog, know how much I love candy dots as finishing touches. The candy dots used are Sahara Sand. I wanted to use Crisp Cantaloupe but we don't have them for the In Color Collections. I sure hope they add them for the new catalog in July!

Luck of the Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This card is to the celebrate the Irishman in my life - my husband, John. His mother and father immigrated here from Ireland in the 50's. So John and his siblings are the first american generation. I have enjoyed experiencing many Irish traditions during our thirty years together.

I used green and gold as we all know the Leprechauns will bring us gold! You can't tell from the photo but the top green layer - Pear Pizazz was spritzed with Shimmer Mist. I took a lot of pictures and I just could not capture the glimmer. Also the sentiment is embossed in gold as well.

I hope your have a great St. Patty's day and I will leave you with this Irish Blessing...

The Colors of Spring

Our weather here in Southwest Florida has been glorious and many of our flowering trees and bushes are flush with color. Here is a picture of a tree in my front yard:

These trees always have unique shapes and stunning flowers each March. They are called a Tabebuia tree and they have yellow or pink flowers. Now doesn't this say Spring?

And so I was inspired to create ...

The colors are Daffodil Delight and Baked Brown Sugar. The flower stamp is from the Best of Sale-a-Bration stamp set and resemble the flowers on the tree. Remember the Best Of stamp sets are only available through May 31st! Best of Stamp Sets available here.

Spring has Sprung for the Pals March Blog Hop

The Stampin' Mojo for my card this month was inspired by flowers at church this weekend. The vibrancy of the varied purple flowers against the dark green foliage was striking.

The card is non-standard 6 1/2" x 4". With the Envelope Punch Board I no longer need to stick with a standard size card!

I used two different floral stamp sets; Secret Garden and Simple Stems. Both of these sets work with the Secret Garden framelits! I love when I can we can leverage the framelits with multiple stamp sets. I added Basic Jewel Rhinestones to the center of the daisies and a little Dazzling Details were added to the centers of the other flowers.

My intention was to trim the flowers that were hanging off the Very Vanilla layer. Then I laid it onto the Old Olive layer and thought...I'll trim it along this layer. But again I didn't want to trim it as you can't take it back right? So I decided to allow all the dimension of the layer flowers to remain key to the card and simply let the flowers overflow off the whole card.

You can see a little more of the shimmer and sparkle to the flowers here. The thank you sentiment comes from the Happy Watercolor stamp set.

I plan on sending this to a family friend who hosted a dinner party this past Saturday because I was in town. She and her husband are still lively and fun as they approach their 80th birthdays. That is the way to live, they are a terrific inspiration to me.

Freshly Made Sketch #125 - Hoppy Easter

March 1st, yikes time is flying. The sketch over a Freshly Made Sketches is so clean and simple I had to jump into the fun.

I had purchased the Eggstra Spectacular stamp set from the Occasions catalog and knew this was a perfect sketch to get it inked up. Here is the card:

A very clean and simple design for sure. I used Pear Pizazz, Daffodil delight, and Tangerine Tango to create a the feeling of Spring. The new Fringe Scissors also got some attention today. The Happy Easter stamp is embossed in Tangerine Tango to create texture to the "egg".

Yesterday, I mentioned our oldest was coming home for Spring break. As he was on the bus traveling home and texted that he was looking forward to some Girl Scout cookies. Of course as any mom would do, I sought out Girl Scout cookies. Here is the result...
