Good Morning! Today is a special post as I have been asked by my friend and fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Shannon Jaramillo to be a part of the Creative Blog hop!
What is the Creative Blog Hop? Well, it's like a chain letter. The person at the start answers four questions about themselves and then nominates one or two other stampers to participate and they do the same! It's always on Mondays and just hops from one blog to the next in a never-ending chain!
The purpose of the Hop is to give us the opportunity to share a bit about ourselves and to be able to introduce our readers to others stampers whose work we admire.
If you read Shannon's blog post here, then you learned a little about me. Let's see what else I can share with you.
1. What am I working on now?
I have so many ideas and projects in my head and not enough time to do it all. I am currently working on a Advent Calendar using the Tiny Treat boxes from the Stampin' Up Holiday Catalog. It is still a work in progress but here is a sneak peek...
I have used current Stampin Up products and a couple of retired items. I am pleased with the result so far.
2. How does my work differ from others in my genre?
I like to think my style is clean, classic, and elegant. Here are a few of my favorite cards, click on the card to go to the blog post and get more details.
Is my style unique? I don't know if it is unique, yet it is totally me. While each of these cards have ribbons as embellishments I don't ways use ribbons. I do love to add texture to my cards and my scrapbook pages.
3. Why do I create what I do?
I love to build things so I love to create. I have always been a organizer and problem solver. In my daily work many times my projects are longer term and the sense of satisfaction from completing something takes time. When I create a card, scrapbook page or decorative holiday item I have such a sense of accomplishment. I love when I am done and I can step back and say, Wow, I did that!
I create a personalized birthday card for each person in our organization (over 105 associates). It makes my heart soar as I walk around the office and see associates have these cards displayed at their desk. Not because I made it, because they tell me it makes THEM feel special. Isn't that what giving is all about? I love letting others know they are special to me through the creation of a card especially for them.
I have been capturing memories since high school. My best friend's mom did this with photos, matchbook covers, plane tickets and other memorabilia. I thought it was very special. My scrapbook pages have evolved and it is fun to watch their evolution along with changes of everyone in the photos. The introduction of Project Life reminds us to capture those everyday moments as well as the special events. I have really enjoyed doing this to tell the story of our lives.
4. How does my creative process work?
I get my Mojo (inspiration) from everything around me. It could be an event and the colors of the event. It could be a catalog I was paging through. Of course Pinterest is always a place for inspiration.
I tend to create as I go. The Advent calendar is a perfect example. Sometimes I have a vision in my head however more often the project, card or scrapbook page evolves as I create even if I had a vision to start with. When I think I am done I step back to look at the result and I may add something else or even take something away. I have even been writing a blog for a card and think "I should have...", and the next thing I know it I am remaking the card to finish the blog post.
Now I want to introduce to you another talented crafter, Lynn Kolcun. Lynn and I met just a few weeks ago at a World Card Making event in Atlanta Georgia. We hit it off immediately and had so much in common. I know you will enjoy getting to know her and seeing her unique creations as well.
You can see Lynn's work at Avery's Owlery named after her granddaughter. Then next Monday you can learn more about what Lynn is working on when she is featured on the Creative Blog Hop.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to share with you a bit more about me and why I create. I hope you will add StampinMojo to your list of places YOU get inspiration. You can also follow me on Facebook and Pinterest.
Cheers,
Michelle
